The perception is that a realtor does not do much to earn their living. And many do nothing to change this perception. Once you work yourself honestly, ethically, over that hump, you are referred to clients friends and family members. You have to work diligently to get there and too many do not.

In the last year, the condo I am leasing has been for sale and at least 30 agents have brought clients in. Out of that number, only about 5 of them were polite, friendly, professional, and seemed to have an I.Q. over 60. The rest showed up unannounced, late, had a 'tude, and the really "special" ones left lights on and the door wide open if I wasn't around.

Unfavorable? You make the call.

I have to be very honest; this sounds to me like a bit of an exaggeration.

I agree that some are careless, but in all of my listings, I have never encountered a situation like you describe.

And I am curious to know what yardstick you use to measure I.Q?

I was thinking the same thing...I just didn't say it. I can honestly say I've never had that situation on any of my listings. Geez, 30 showings is insane by itself but 25 without calling in advance? It just sounds unbelievable.

This is commercial real estate - but its still a realtor be slimy and greedy...this guy found himself a great deal on a 100+ acre tract of land in a suburb of Houston where at the time of the purchase it was rumored that Exxon was building a new campus.... Long story short the brokers took it out from under him and closed on it themselves. Jury awarded him $16,500,000....BTW Exxon did build the campus and the property is currently re-listed for sale for more 5 times the original purchase price or $28,000,000.

We've had smaller versions of that here. I know one agent in Portland that was approached to list a house by a child of an estate. The young person made a comment that they would sell the house for X, which was about 50% of market value. So the agent wrote up a contract right there and bought the house for 50% of market. I was appalled. Family is often distraught in dealing with the estate. Totally unethical and he is a DB. Still an agent up there.

I think the poster meant that some didn't call in advance, some showed up late, some were rude. It was a variety. That doesn't happen on my listings, generally speaking, but all appointments go through me.
