The bank sent me papers for a loan modification b/c I was unable to afford the mortgage b/c my husband dies in Afghanistan. So the home has been vacant and was unsuccessful during the short sell but I have been hearing that there is no modification programs for vacant homes. This seems unbelievable, is it true? The bank is the one who contacted me about the modification option, Im sure they knew the home has been vacant

The bank has no idea the home is vacant, if your loan was for a single family home as the primary resident fill out the paperwork as if it still is.

The lender will require proof that you are still in the home. Most likely they will send someone out to take pictures, and will require you to provide current utility bills in your name mailed to that address as evidence that you still live there.
