It may. I think in SC a felony involving money (laundering, embezzlement, ID theft, etc) does disqualify someone from being an agent. You should check with your state Real Estate Commission to find out.

Oh and I did contact the real estate board and they didn't really give me a straight answer.... they pretty much said that having a felony could effect me being able to get licensed, but it might also not have any effect. They said I have to submit my application/paperwork for the superintendent to review. I don't want to waste $1500 for classes if I can't even get licensed....
Out here if you have a criminal record, you have to fill out a special form asking for it to reviewed for a license. They make those decisions on a case by case basis because something you did 30 years ago as a teenager while drunk is different than something you did last year.
I can't imagine anyone telling you that you can or can't. I think most states will make judgement calls on criminal histories.

$1500 for classes? That's crazy. You can find a good online class for $200 or $300.

Yep. I'm in the Cleveland area and the only place I've found that offer the required classes is a place called Hondros College and they charge $1500 for their package.

Oh dear god! So it is true that just about anyone can become a real estate agent? Couple of hundred dollars and an online class and now I am qualified to guide people on one of the biggest and most impactful purchases of their lives? I do not know weather to laugh, cry or crap myself!
