I know for a Real Estate Agent investors are great, but for the person looking for a home for their family it's a kill joy. Trying to buy a short sale in my area is frustrating when every time you submit a offer an investor gets it becuase it's a cash sale. Another offer taken off the table

Bottom feeding investors have always existed.
They aren't the problem.

The problem (now) is the scale of the bottom feeders pool of potential purchases, and by that, how it has overflowed into the range of what the "regular" buyers want or just need to be doing.

A thought: If the non-investors were to stop even looking at shorts and REO's... let alone allowing themselves to get wound up and down by the process, the price of these properties would have to drop even more.

Who is served by having the prices propped up by that activity?

It does, becuase now that I can't buy what I want I end up renting it from the investors that purchased the properties.

HUD gives owner occupant bidders an advantage by not allowing investors to bid during the initial offering.

It isn't just the HUD. There are Fanny may home path and Freddy mack first look houses. I see quite a few in my area. As an investor I find that frustrating. You do need to get an offer in usually within the first 10 or 15 days to not have to compete with investors.
