As far as garages go, many here are converted into bedrooms. Your taxes don't go up if you don't change the footprint of the home.
Your taxes may not go up, but your resale will go down, so there is a trade-off.

and I have never seen one that really worked.. they always look like what they , are a cheap solution to a major problem and you have lost your garage.. If it was done without proper permits it can be a nightmare when you go to sell.

Yes, I would. I don't like garages. I like carports. I would have a shed/workshop in back instead of a garage.

Then again, I live in an even climate. I think cold areas might need a garage?

I did as well, but i'm the only one so I luxuriously park in the middle of the driveway and the garage haha

Default I would not

I need to have a garage. My cars are too valuable to me to just have exposed to the elements and the potential vandalism/theft...thuggery that could occur.

No and way. My next home is going to be a scary looking old Victorian and if it doesn't have a creepy basement with those narrow stairs that you see in all the horror films it's a deal breaker.

Lol we have seating and a fridge in the garage. That is how often we sit and entertain in that room of the house.

Exactly. We looked at a house that had a family room converted from a garage (it had a separate two car garage in back of the house). The family room still felt like a converted garage. It didn't feel inviting at all, and you could tell it had been a garage. It's just one of the reasons we didn't care for the house.
