Is there any way to make sure you're the first to see a home in a neighborhood? There's a community I've really wanted to live in for a long time. Yesterday, a house that looked perfect went on the market in the morning but I didn't notice it until the evening and it was sold by then. I'm so bummed out. Do I have to just check every hour if I don't want this to happen?
It was probably 'sold' before it hit the market. This is where a good agent comes in- sometimes they know what is about to go on the market before it goes live.

My agent told me they already accepted an offer. Is there any way for me to get involved? If they haven't actually signed the offer in writing (I don't know this), can I just offer more?
It would make me less sad at least if it had been sold before it hit the market. I'm so upset with myself for not checking the listings until the evening. Usually I check more often.
If they accepted an offer, it had to be in writing and signed by both parties I believe. But I would think you could put in a back up offer, in case something goes south with the process of underwriting, etc.

Actually, I see from my realtor's message to me that they accepted the offer at 11 PM last night. I think the buyer was either someone who had a heads up that it was going on the market or was checking the listing very often.
I would be surprised if your Realtor doesn't have the ability to have new listings pushed to you immediately from the MLS. You shouldn't have to ever go search yourself multiple times a day.
Now, as someone noted, you should ask your Realtor about a backup offer, how that works in your market.

Our neighborhood is a hot market like that, and it helps when you (and your agent) have to know people who live there who can give you a heads up about upcoming listings.
Your agent should have called YOU within the hour of it hitting the MLS if they know the market is like that.
Try to make a few contacts in the neighborhood. They may be able to give you scoop on situations like divorces, job relocations, elderly passing away or going to nh. Then you can talk to the people before it's even listed especially if you don't mind buying it as is.
