Induction is far superior to traditional heating elements in glass cooktops. I had a BlueStar gas cooktop. It was like working in a restaurant, hot and dangerous. I switched to induction a decade ago. I sold the gas cooktop that came with the house I bought in 2019 and put in a 36" GE induction cooktop. I love it.
My preference is gas, but if that's not available and the cooktop is induction, I'd be ok with it. But not the regular kind. Those are hard to keep clean and have poor heat control when cooking. They tend to heat by how long they're on so the bottom of the pan cycles between full hot and not, while the rest of the food sink and scorches to the hot bottom.
I think that people who don't do a lot of serious cooking and are looking for the magazine image of a kitchen will like the glass cooktop. Those who really want to cook prefer gas or induction. But then they probably want a working kitchen and not an open to the whole house show place.
Gas? yes.
Smoothtop/induction? yes.
COnventional glass top electric? rather not.
Coils? Do they even make these anymore, other than maybe ultra-cheap apartment types?
From a buyer's point of view- coil type electric range screams â€cheap apartment.†But so does a cheap gas range. Glass top electric is better although I have replaced mine with a (good) gas range. The handwriting is on the wall- induction is the electric range of the future. It makes no sense to put in a new resistive electric range- either coil or glass top.
To be honest and address your actual question, I'm sure every buyer has a preference as we all do, however, the lack or presence thereof of an undesirable type of appliance can hardly be considered a dealbreaker, I would think. That is, even if I was a hard core gas range person (I'm not, but they have their place), I wouldn't let the "wrong" cooktop force me to pass on a property I really liked.
As an aside, a properly installed gas range will be accompanied by a range hood that vents to the exterior of the house. Burning natural gas does produce carbon monoxide, which is not good to have inside the home. The hood should be on with the fan running any time the range is in use.
I prefer gas, but the condo we bought only had electric glass surface. Hated it. We replaced it with a coil electric. it heats faster and while not gas sadly, it is better than the glass top.
I just got a new (expensive) induction stove, glass top. Cooking is a dream with this thing. I have had every type of stove, and this one by FAR exceeds them all!!!
