I asked him if I could become paralyzed from this if I let it go (no surgery) and he said eventually over time I could end up with gait disturbances and then possibly no movement (paralysis). So, bottom line is... I have to allow someone to operate on my spinal cord/nervous system. I have been crying all day and extremely scared. We are going to wait until I finish taking the steroid taper--once that is completed we will wait it out for 6 weeks, then he will re-examine me and assess me for weakness and pain--if so, then he will schedule the surgery. If the pain comes back after the steroid taper is done--immediate surgery. He cannot inject it because of the location -- C4-6. If it were mid to lower back, then he would inject, but at the neck region that is core nerve bundles--too dangerous to inject.

I'm extremely upset because this is going to force me to take my house off the market and not move to Texas until this entire ordeal is over. There is a 3 month FULL recovery period after surgery.

I did speak to a nurse who recovers these types of surgeries and she said they are fairly simple and people usually have no problems post op. It requires an anterior approach, going in the front of my neck and removing bone/disks that are compressing the cord. Then taking bone from my hip/pelvis (another incision and will probably cause me more pain post op then the cervical incision) and grafting it to my spine where it should be. Basically a spinal fusion. They could use cadaver bone, but I have a 10% chance of rejecting that and only 2% chance of rejecting my own bone. If I reject...It will mean a 2nd surgery with posterior approach, so when the time comes...and it will ...I will go with my own bone.

On a lighter note...wonder if he can remove some fat down there at my hips?

Shelly I missed this post.. My prayers that the pain does not come back after the taper. That will give you 6 weeks to sort things out. I am so glad you are taking your home off the market one thing less you have to stress about if you don't feel like making your bed who cares no showings a big relief. Good grief I had no idea that it was going to be so bad. Shelly we all are here for you just remember that. Start typing any time and we all in our own way will be there via the camp.

Well the guy just left that wanted to see our house and he and his partner said they loved it. We will now wait and see how much lol!!!
OK Judy don't rub it in you must have read my status.lol (80 degrees)
Everything crossed for them loving it right to an offer to you. I think it is your turn for a contract don't you?
Glad to hear that others forget stupid little things like you I go into a room and forget why. I haven't done what painter did YET but I have put my makeup on and forgeting the base make up and at my age I need that base.lol

Maybe your neighbor could help you?
You are right it would be the best time to get a puppy since you will be at home but will you be able to without hurting yourself take care of the pup. You are #1 so you come first. You are the only one who knows if you can do it.
Prayers to you and your health.

Can't help myself.
Well, I wouldn't get it immediately post op. After 3 weeks, I should be recovered and can drive. I will be wearing a cervical neck collar for about 4-6 weeks post-op. But 4 weeks post-op I can go back to light duty, not lifting anything over 10 lbs. I was thinking down the road--maybe 8 weeks post-op. I would be working only 8 hrs/day, daylight. It was a thought. I will have to give it more serious consideration. Y'all are right--if I can't, then I can't. I have to look after myself first. But I sure do want a puppy!

all so much for your support!!! I am amazingly calm about the whole thing, either I have become use to nothing coming of it or I know that they are going to low ball us by about $170,000 and that is a hard thing to come to any compromise to. We will see but I am not expecting a lot here.

Thank you Judy. Yes they grow up so fast. I have been waiting for almost a year for hubby to put up the big computer so I could look at all the pictures again. When I came across this one I didn't remember it. #2 grandson never was a hugger like his older brother was and then this picture I came across. He is now the Jock and #1 is the brain who is a junior in HS and his last report card was a 4.0 gpa. They are so different which makes it even better. Granddaughter is a sweetie and tries to please everyone.

Morning all-Lorrie what handsome guys.

My grandson is now 18 and has always been my cuddle bug. When we went back home in June for our son's engagement party-he never left my side and would grab hold of my hand and squeeze, hugs before leaving for school and when home again. Why tho do they grow up so quickly????

Judy hope they don't lowball you.
