I cooked some chicken breasts recently and the meat is very tough -- I don't believe that cooking was the issue because the meat tastes old. Would shredding it and putting it in soup be the best way to use it, or should I toss it? Thanks in advance for your advice.
I rarely have this problem with chicken, How long was the chicken in your fridge or freezer? How did you cook the chicken? if it tastes old I'd toss it.

I think this is the worst part of cooking chicken breasts, they can be tough or very dry. Usually this is due to over cooking. It is amazing how fast chicken pieces cook. If it were me and I just had the same experience on Monday, I would probably just toss it. I think what we didn't eat I set aside for a doggy treat. Yes, you could use it for soup, but it will still not be all that great.
I'd pitch it or maybe give it to the dog. If I HAD to use it, it would be chicken salad with extra mayo, soup, or chicken pot pie.
(I rarely buy boneless chicken breasts because they lack fat; hence, they are dry and flavorless unless they are doctored up. Give me a boneless thigh instead, please.)

Toss it. You'll waste time and other ingredients trying to salvage it, and you'll just have another awful dish to throw away. Overcooked chicken tastes old and it will still be tough. Get an inexpensive meat thermometer. Chicken breast is tender and juicy when cooked to the proper temp.
It came from OLD chicken. As they age, their meat turns that way. I'd suggest to never buy from that supplier again.
Try steaming it, if you can. But, otherwise, as I doubt, American cats will eat meat, toss it. Or, give to chickens, will be treat for them.
