Just a question, does it really matter to you. I find it extremely difficult to date a female who does not share somewhat similar taste in music as I. It sounds trivial but I can't help it. I play my records and music loudly almost every evening when I get off, in the car (windows up, I don't like to annoy others) and at home. I've totally written off females in the past because they enjoy country music, hardcore rap, gospel, etc......
It is VERY important to have someone share similar musical interests as you. Of course, she/he might not be into every band you enjoy, but a big portion of their taste must match yours, otherwise things could (eventually) get ugly. Imagine traveling across the country in a car with your partner only to have to listen to a genre of music you absolutely hate. This is almost divorce material!

BTW I do dj as just a hobby.
If she and you both like different styles...maybe you could both listen and be open a little more, to what each other likes? In other words: she being open to listening to your stuff, and vice versa? That way, everyone is happy in theory?
That would be ideal, but my taste in music is VERY eclectic. In a relationship there are so many other really key deal breakers that music doesn't even come close to making my list.
I'd say it's a deal breaker unless you have a very high tolerance for music you don't enjoy or only have to take in limited quantities. I could put up with maybe 20 minutes a day of music I hate, but anything more than that would definitely increase the blood pressure. It also depends on how important music is to your partner. Some people can go weeks without even turning on the radio while others can't do without it in a 24 time period.

Good point that I didnt think about - Im the music lover - my partner enjoys it but will listen to whatever I enjoy (though we do have some minor overlap)- could be why it works
I'm okay with a lot of music bands as long as it's not screamo. That's my only deal breaker I believe.
Yea, screamo is very annoying.
