I feel for you. I have no memory of ever living without a dog. I would be miserable! That's why I always want to have at least two dogs. That way I always have one to come home to.
I did the same thing. I spaced all their ages out so I would always have one.
One of my beagles gave SD an ass chewing the other morning. I went out with coworkers right after work so they stayed at his house. They had to sleep in their kennels while he worked overnight. When we got there Saturday morning, I let the girls out of their kennels, and Mona chewed me out at first. We then went outside and she started barking her head off at SD. She briefly looked at me, then turned around again and looked him in the face and continued to bark. I think she was ripping him a new one for leaving her in the kennel. LOL
I am still laughing about that. After that she was trying to be my buddy.
