Though reading on this forum would make you believe that marriage is a horrible trap filled with a lifetime of disappointment, a new study was just published that found that a big percentage of married people consider themselves very in love with their spouses:

Quote:
In a random survey, 47.8 percent of married Americans (49 percent of men and 46.3 percent of women) reported being “very intensely in love” with their spouse, according to a research team led by Stony Brook University psychologist K. Daniel O’Leary. Another 13.4 percent said they were “intensely in love,” while 26.2 percent chose the term “very in love.”

Marriage is obsolete, so this study is irrelevant.

Well, who is going to admit that they don't like their spouse?

I mean, really? It's kind of an affirmation...

Well, I can see where this thread will go. It will divide between the embittered, cynical souls who couldn't have a relationship if they tried and those who have actually -- gasp -- made wise decisions when choosing a life partner and keeping that relationship healthy.

The first group will never blame themselves for their incompetence, but will instead lay their relationship failures at the feet of everything else. For that would mean admitting to being wrong.

I would hope that people would like each other before deciding to get married. Otherwise, they're just legally shacking up.

This seems about right. Almost fifty percent like each other and another 50 cheats. Statistics never lie.

This is so stupid, of course married people should like each other! If not WTF are they married for? It's like saying "Studies show that friends actually like each other!" WOW!!!

I guess in a new world where divorce is the rule and not the exception, this would be news.... lol

Fleets, did you see the fine print at the bottom of the original paper?
