Oddly enough, in our 21 years together, MrsCPG and I have gone out to eat on Valentine's Day only once. And that was as an afterthought. The way she puts it, "We celebrate Valentine's Day every day. People who celebrate it once a year are amateurs."
For me, any day my fiancee's day has been satisfying is satisfying for me. On Valentine's day, maybe we go an extra step with a card and simple gift, but there is no lack of romance the other days of the year, nor are there outrageous expectations.
Valentine's day should not be the one day a year a couple finds some romance. However, if some romance has left a relationship, it could be a good day to rekindle it too.

Amen. We have been out once. We don't equate romance and going out. In fact, it's much more romantic to stay in and have one-on-one time.
I think the day is cute and I like to do a little something. But I agree with your wife.
