Using "gay" as a slur isn't really the mark of highly sophisticated person.
No it's not. Many years ago I was sitting at a bar waiting for my husband (he worked at the restaurant). I knew the bartender pretty well. She was a lovely woman and a lesbian. I used the phrase "that's so gay" at least 3 times in our conversation and kept slapping myself upside the head for it and apologizing. Dumb.
I mean come on dude, sometimes I think you start these threads without even thinking. It has nothing to do with being homophobic... 'gay' is used to describe feminine things in men and when it is used like that, it has nothing to do with a homosexual man.
Do you have any contact with people outside of your computer?
It's probably unattractive to women because it's just weird and most women aren't attracted to feminine guys because they're weird and don't possess traits that attract women.
You took the words outta my mouth!
Sheesh. I wish someone would take that computer away from him. Maybe he would actually start living in the real world.

I do sometimes say things are "gay" around my gay friends, but it's usually after someone has quoted from a musical or has made a catty remark about an outfit. And it's in the sense of "that's the gayest thing you've said today, man!" It's taken as a compliment.
I stopped saying things were "retarded" because I know several people with Down's Syndrome in their lives, and I saw how that word upset them. It's not worth it.

I still use retarded and wonder if I shouldn't, but would anyone ever refer to a person with downs as retarded? Is that used? I don't get that one. With the gay thing, the word is used to describe gay people, so I can understand how/why it's considered a slur.

I don't understand why the word retarded is seen as a bad thing. If you're retarded, you're retarded. That's just what it is.

I don't think being retarded, as in socially retarded, is the same as the trisomy downs, but that's how some perceive it.
