I dated a couple girls in college with this mindset. They were taking fluff classes in liberal arts majors, skating through college in the hopes of locking up a guy with a STEM degree. Suffice to say, they were sorely disappointed when their plan didn't work out the way they wanted and they were still single and 5 figures in debt.
Actually, the same thing used to be true in America in the 50s but we've moved on since then. Check out the movie "Mona Lisa Smile" which is based on the idea that in the 50s, women only went to university to bide their time until they found a husband. Nowadays, we believe people should marry when they feel they are ready and when they feel they found the right person to marry and regardless of that person's economic status. I had no idea such a concept was still considered radical to some.
Yeah I saw the movie.
As for women marrying people with a low social status, bills have to be paid! And love wont pay for a mortgage! Besides you can grow to love some one.
Because as I said, you go to college to get an education. That is the purpose and intention. If you also happen to meet someone there and become engaged to them, then that's fine, and if you don't, then you're still doing what you came to do.
I'm sure there's some women that do go to college to find a man that will make money. However the average guy out there doesn't have any talent, he just goes to college because he doesn't know what else to do, and that piece of paper will accompany a wheelbarrow full of student debt to be paid off by his mediocre job. There's better avenues for which gold diggers can pursue their goals
The idea is that they get their foot in the door early with a guy BEFORE he starts making money.

Well then, thats when you skip the STEM degree guys & try to hook at least a professor. I used to take a class where I sat front row, with my legs open, no undewear. You know how well that ended!
Because most 22 year olds aren't fit to get married, male or female!
Many just aren't even thinking about it. It never occurs to them. (probably because of their age)
