Admiral Akbar!

When I did OLD, I preferred "coffee dates" for the first meetup. But it really didn't have to be coffee. Even a quick lunch at a place like Panera where you are typically only there for about 30 minutes would work. I met one guy at a bar for drinks, it was essentially like a coffee date.

I like the quick date for a first meeting from OLD much for the same reasons others commented on--if it went poorly, it was over with quickly and if it went well, just make arrangements for a "real" date. And I was glad for it with that guy I met for drinks I mentioned, he was the worst jerk I ever went on a date with. Spent the whole time passive aggressively insulting me to the point where I slapped money on the bar and payed for the drinks and left. Only time I ever walked out on a date too (and he followed me into the parking lot and tried to get a kiss after insulting me all that time... yeah, like that's going to happen).

He was just a jerk... not a typical man by any means. I was just using it as an example of why I think (with OLD anyway) a "coffee date" or other quick date for a first meeting is best.

He must live in a mental house because why would a guy want to waste him time like that? I can see a guy saying he is 5'11 but is actually 5'8 but not completely different looking

I honestly don't see how a coffee date is anything different than a lunch date, other than it's shorter. Even in regards to food, many coffee places also have sandwiches, salads, or at least snacks.
I think starbucks only has muffins

They must have changed because I only remember starbucks having latte's juice and pastries/muffins in 2001 which is why I stopped going there on a date
