I'm sorry you're going through this. Having gone through the Baltimore riots, I know the fear and concern for yourself, your neighbors, and your fellow citizens is real.

I did some bing searches and didn't see much in terms of rioting, something about a highway being shutdown for about 45 minutes or so, anti-trump protestors it looks like.

I just did a bit of searching, too. What I find very interesting is that the only "big box" news sources that came up on my Google search covering this, were Fox. Silence from all the other networks. Other right aligned sources like Breitbart are also reporting on it, with a very strong, "The left is crazy and violent!" spin.

Some more local people were talking on Reddit about it and say that as protests go, it was fairly mild.

Still, I think that what RbccL describes sounds scary to have happening too close to home, y'know? Hm.

Though I have been following the underlying thing, it's more than just a matter of "Trump is in town and people are protesting." The Mayor, after the city got stiffed for previous campaign events--city police being expected to work overtime and provide security, and Trump's campaign should be paying for that. Trump claims the police are there volunteering because they simply like and support him, I guess? It got more complicated from there. One fairly vocal Lieutenant in the force IS a supporter, and he's mad he cannot wear his uniform in the capacity of attending rallies and supporting 45. The Mayor says that the city police can only wear the uniforms if they are working, and the entire point is ensuring public safety, it's not a show of support for any political party or candidate, period. So anyhow, the Mayor recently demanded that the Trump campaign pay in advance for the police and everything, and there's been a fuss and a bit of a showdown over this. There's a bit more to it, but...again, this was an event that had a lot of potential to get very nasty for several reasons.

I saw that stuff on FB! Insane. And that man had the nerve to use a Prince song too as his entry song or whatever. Disrespectful to the memory of Prince, IMO.

Be safe, OK?

I wasn't trying to downplay it, I was just curious about it is all. Scary, you should have been in LA during the Rodney King riots, I could see smoke from my house.

I understand about riots being scary.

Yeah, it's all over the local talk shows and news on the radio here. Power shutdowns up north. Seems a little late in the season for fires, usually happens more in summer.

Oh I know, Chow, I was saying how scary it was in response to how people on Reddit were calling it "mild" as protests/riots go.

Also, about the PG&E power shutdown in Northern CA, I spotted a friend on FB complaining about that, and as I work in a field related to energy that has interests in that area, I got some brownie points for spreading the word about this around my office the other day, since some of our teams will have to field calls and such connected to something like that happening...

It's not what anyone sees on TV.
The scariest parts don't get broadcast, happening in real time last night:

MINNEAPOLIS - 2XXX 39TH AVE S - PD/FD RESPONDING TO GROUP SETTING THE RAMP ON FIRE.
- 6TH ST 1ST AVE - SEVERAL FIGHTS BREAKING OUT. EMS STARTED FOR ONE WITH A HEAD INJURY. PD ARE ESCORTING VIC OUT OF THE AREA DUE TO THE MULTIPLE FIGHTS.
- 31ST LYNDALE AVE S - INJURY ACCIDENT PESDESTRIAN STRUCK
- XXX 2ND AVE S - SIX WHITE MALES SOME DRESSED IN ARMY FATIGUES AND ALL REPORTED TO HAVE GUNS
SEVERAL IN CUSTODY STILL SEVERAL AT LARGE
- LEVEL C REPORT OF RED SUV WITH MALES LOADING BAGS INTO IT.
-SECOND IN CUSTODY HAS LARGE AMOUNT OF AMMO AND SEVERAL MAGAZINES RECOVERED.

On and on for hours..it's not fun not knowing how it will end. The police on horseback are very brave. Bottles being thrown, pepper spray thick...awful scene. So much hate all around.
