Wut? You prefer someone else ask someone out for you? Come on, man. That's like middle school stuff. May as well just send her a letter, asking her ''Do you like me?'' and to check the box under either yes or no.
I say give equal opportunity for all forms of communication for new people. Just make hard, fast rules and stick with them. Discard rules that only benefit you or the ones that somebody said were the only acceptable ones for grown ups.
For example, texts are perfect for short, explicit information. If my question could be answered with a yes or no, then I choose the most convenient one at the moment. I also use text as a way to weed out people who can't get to the point or who have "lil" problems. The minute I feel a phone call is needed, usually because the text is confusing or my response would be interpreted differently, I ask if I may call instead. Then I wait politely.
With good friends whose voice I haven't heard all week, I may start with a phone call and if they don't pick up, I text. Most of the time they return the phone call. Sometimes our texts are long, but since we are friends and I know them, I am fine with this.
You can wimp out and leave a VM or do via text - it's easier for YOU if you don't have confidence. But also realize it is easier for HER to blow you off too, using the same methods or not replying/ignoring it.
