OP, you seem to be hoping it's a compliment, or kind of fishing for a compliment.

I don't take it that way. I don't like it. Some guys tend to use it presumptuously, before they really know you. Like they're taking your for granted, or something.

IDK. Something kind of smarmy about it. But it probably depends on context, person saying it. etc. etc.

I take it as an endearment , even if it's a casual one.
I use it, too , but only for those I'm fond of or more.

You must be a tad on the older side, I only ask because older ladies seem to be a bit more "relaxed" in terms of pet type names. I started a thread on a very similar subject a good while back and it was by far the younger women if a I recall right that got more bent out of shape with pet names.

To be honest I actually find that "babe" might be a little much, but it depends on the situation I suppose.

I'm more than a tad on the older side and my husband always called me Babe and so did the much younger man I was seeing for a couple of years after he died.
But I find a lot of younger women get bent out of shape about a lot of things I take in stride.
Life is so much more pleasant without having your panties in a twist all the time about perceived slights.

Spoken like someone who has learned well in life.

Things you just don't always get when younger.

From a stranger or someone I hardly know? It's ... presumptuous.
And insulting!

I also don't like it when a stranger calls me honey. Newsflash, I ain't your honey, my name is Tim, please use that!

Do you let strangers know your name is Tim before they call you honey?

I don't mind that. If pet names offended me here in the south I'd be walking around throwing a hissy fit all day long .

It is kinda funny when women 10+ years younger than I call me "honey."

That's different from the OP, though. I get the sense that the OP wants the FWB to care for them and is hoping the use of "babe" might be an indicator of that.

Would an unattractive person ever be called "Babe"??!
The only person I ever called "Babe" is my wife who I have VERY close personal relationship with!

Every other woman is a neutral term "Kiddo" that all can feel comfortable with.
