Ask your boyfriend. He seems to have discovered the secret.

I guess I'm really confused as you always said you were low paid, with a fixer upper.... and really 4k for essentials (mortgage, food, utilities) doesn't really go with some of your previous posts.

If ones house budget is 4K you should be making around 7K minimum (gas, car insurance, clothing, etc.).
I live in one of the most expensive states, in a pretty decent area. I am low income for where I live. I was really low a few years ago. I managed to increase my income fairly significantly over the last year, which was good.

You don't get it. Some people don't care about stuff like that, and he appears to be one of them. It sounds like he would rather have the lower bills.

How could you not have discussed this before hand?

I live in one of the most expensive states and I live in a gated, golf course community and my monthly household bills are not that high.

We did. I asked him to pay the same amount he was paying ($500) plus groceries. In theory his expenses should have only increased in food costs

How did theory come into play? Either he is paying that or not. He shouldn't have paid for your new garage doors though.

I think he who moved from a dive to a nice house has gained a lot, and should be willing to pay his fair share. And it's not fair to pay what his dive costed. His living circumstances have improved and he should pay for that. The fact that he cares so little about the woman he ostensibly loves that he's a cheapskate with her tells me a lot about his character.

Well he paid for the garage doors because he didn’t pay his $500 at all last year. He also put my car out and took over the garage. It seemed like a fair fee for him to pay

So he is not paying his bill to you? That's an even bigger problem. It's starting to sound like he is kinda using you, are you getting that vibe?
