I'm lost on this one. He can be in long term committed ethically non-monogamous relationships.

This sounds like polyamory. Which is basically a politically correct way for naturally desirable men to have sex with multiple women. All while the women are either none the wiser or embrace the lifestyle.

What? I seriously do no understand half of what you type. Polyamory is one type of ethically non monogamous relationship, hardly the only type.

Polyamory works in all directions, not just men wanting to sleep with multiple women. Also women are not none the wiser, if they don't consent its called cheating.

Maybe he said he didn't believe in monogamy, but then went on to be monogamous with someone else. Just didn't have it in him to tell the poster he didn't want to be together...or maybe a the time he really believed monogamy wasn't for him.

Maybe. That's not what they said though. But whatever.

"If you don't marry me, nobody else will want you" and then "but getting married is a great tax break!!"

This is exactly what happened. Apologies if my original post wasn't clear. My ex and I live in the same city, and have a plethora of mutual friends, and he was definitely using the 'not believing in monogamy' line as an excuse to turn me off, cheat on me, and eventually end the relationship.

To be clear, I don't necessarily have a problem with others that live non-monogamous / polyamorous lifestyles (aka, I'm not judging anyone that lives this way), it's just not the type of relationship I wish to be a part of, and was a known dealbreaker for me.

"I think you are just too conservative for me"
After I expressed that I was not interested in a friends with benefits arrangement.
After that, he then told me he has a girlfriend he brings around family and sees on the weekends AND a side chick that he sees in the week since his "girlfriend" lives in another city. Apparently the women know about each other.

"Unless you marry a pastor or a preacher or someone involved in the church, all men will cheat. You just need to accept it and move on."
Talking to a dude about relationships.
