Lady who worked at a bakery who served me acted a little odd.
Five minutes later another lady came out the store, walked over to me and said her co-worker was attracted to me and asked for my number (she was quiet or shy or something). [I should have been more empathetic, given I'm those things too.]
I refused and when she asked why, I said I didn't believe her/them.
It was mostly a self-esteem thing. I don't think I have love at first sight looks, so I thought they were playing games with me. Brought back unpleasant memories of high school.
She was nice, articulate, good looking, both of us not ashamed to smile and joke, I sometimes wonder what could have been, if it were real/true.
While it is nice to be told directly that I am liked, it is the indirect behavior that carry those sentiments. On the other hand, it is very possible to like somebody but not have the experience or know how to show it. So I may believe a person likes me after they say it, but I won't form a close relationship with them if their behavior says otherwise. They need to learn to show it.
I have liked girls that I didn't like. I can understand how people can become attracted to someone they don't realize they may not actually like. It can happen if a person doesn't really understand themselves very well.

But I used to think of it as a very selfish/70's/hedonistic "Me" thing to know yourself. It can also cause people to be less tolerant of anyone just because they are different. In reality I think we should be more accepting of all people. And I tend to think that any two mature people could probably get along. It's just about finding that relationship dynamic.
