I was hoping to have an enlightening discussion w/ the citizens of C-D in hopes that this would not turn into a post-racial flaming war. My question is, in your opinion: Are black women overlooked in the romance/marriage/dating arena? What are your thoughts & why?
Does this differ depending on the black woman (e.g. I am Trinidadian & although I am a black woman, my behavior is different than those of black American women)
My opinion is I think that some BW are...I think it may be due to unfortunate stereotypes, but are black women judged more in this area if they act according to stereotypes or not?
I am hoping that this does not turn into a mode of bickering & discontentment & that all of us can behave like mature adults. My girlfriends & I were discussing this the other night & I wanted to grab a second opinion.

I think anyone, regardless of age, sex, race, gender, etc., who feels left out of the dating ring can find a superficial reason why they're being left out rather than looking within and finding the real reason.

I don't think they are over looked because beauty is ubiquitous but here in the states I do believe they are treated with less respect due to the influence of rap music that constantly degrades the African female as well as the female in general.
If a black women can stand apart from the video vixen stereotype she will be fine.
I agree on the stereptype front, but I believe any woman would benefit from steering clear of being the stereotype of their race; white, hispanic, black...all of them.
I think it depends...on who you're being ignored by....
I live in Chicago....and there are women I work with who are straight ghetto...dress, speech and mannerisms.....and then there are some who use proper diction....dress classy....(they're generally married to educated black men or white men)...
You're black so by that stereotype alone you will be lumped someplace...and I do not mean this in a disrespectful way at all...
If you're dressing in FUBU, BabyPHAT....have 2 inch long fingernails decorated with rhinestones and have a nasty synthetic weave....you're, more likely, gonna catch the 24in on a Buick type guy...
You are beautiful and seem very intelligent....go to what attracts you....if you don't like the homeboys... don't buy shoes at Journeys....
I'm Mexican, look Italian(cause Italians are more prevalent in Chi) and everyone assumes things about me....like my daddy was mafia
