I know everyone's rushing to advise him that if she has Autism then he will likely get custody of their kids. However, maybe because of how Autism affects my life personally, I feel terrible for the wife if she is indeed Autistic. If she has been diagnosed late in life and she is indeed high functioning (enough that he didn't notice when he married her) then psychological services, parent training may assist her.
I think we need to hear more form the OP.
I was thinking instead of advice here what he really needs is to find out what the support services in his community are.
Even if she got diagnosed "late in life", I want to know why he didn't see the red flags BEFORE he married her?
Many people with Asperger's aren't diagnosed until later in life, especially those over the age of 20-25.
I understand about diagnoses that occur later in adulthood, but my question is, why didn't HE see that something wasn't "right"? This is not like a disease you catch - you are born with it, aren't you?

I don't know much about CA divorce proceedings, but I would think if you believe she is not capabale of taking care of the children alone, and there is cause to show it, you could get some kind of evaluation performed on her with divorce/custody proceedings. You better be careful pointing fingers, though, because that could come back on you...
OP, come back and divulge details soon, the women are getting anxious
How could you tell ?
