If you are expecting to watch evolution happen, it will be in very small things since we are only able to observe what happens in the present.

Larger scale evolution occurs over greater periods of time than we are able to physically observe. There is overwhelming evidence that this occurs.

Of course, if you knew anything at all about evolution you would know that.
For those who have not read the book....evolution works on geological time frames......slowly, very slowly the changes occur from one generation to the next in increments so small that it takes a very long time to figure out the pattern as it emerges, predicting it's end is almost impossible, since the process does not seem to end.

You mean like the counting chimps from the Japanese university...You think that was put on youtube for entertainment purposes?...Your problem is that you just don't like any truth that conflicts with your notion of what is true....You tube is not just for entertainment...There are lots of educational videos too...

I believe in evolution, although the evidence in Washington is to the contrary.

Of course I took it literally, how could I not!
You mean have sex, kill each other, excreting feces, eating other life forms, dying... yea that sounds so different from the rest of the animal kingdom...

Elephants already paint! But when humans do it, it's some sort of magnificent achievement of design, when an animal does it, its a "trick". The unshakable bias/dogma of one incapable of reasoning.

I never claim there is no god, I just said the god you describe can't exist because of X, Y and Z.

"you can believe we came from apes"
Equally as silly as saying:
You can believe we came from mammals.
You can believe we came from vertebrates.

WE ARE APES/MAMMALS/VERTEBRATES!!!!!

The only person here that are making claims are you. I am stating facts.

We have a saying in physics.. when theory contradicts experimentation, there may be a little fight, but experimentation ALWAYS wins.

i know you really enjoy hearing yourself talk, you do realize that just because a person believes what they believe doesnt mean theyre not "open-minded and naturally curious adults actually enjoy the fact that the scope of our accumulated knowledge grows with each hour", thats where your being close minded isnt it? by saying o if theyre "the average Christian (and Muslim) acolyte" that they all "want it to stop?" talk about being close minded... and your the one always being rude to people whom you dont even know. you just dont like christians and muslims. thats discrimination isnt it? to lump religious people into one category and say theyre close minded... open your eyes, dont you see, YOUR THE ONE WHO IS CLOSE MINDED, you think all muslims and christians are the same? wow, thats EXTREMELY CLOSE MINDED....

And in reply to Allenkey's plonking 'God dunnit all! I don't believe evolution and I refuse to have it it explained to me. I've got my fingers in my ears..La La la..can't hear you...Goddunnitgoddunnitgoddunnit..'

BRAVO, thats all i can say is, bravo... nice way to get straight to the point... and as far as the reference to god, i dont get why some people cant understand it either, it makes perfect sense right?...

Is anyone going to bother to take on this string of closed - minded, faith - based illogic and strawman ad hominem or shall I? I'd actually much rather not be bothered.

Does anyone else find it terryfying that almost 21% of C-D posters do not believe in Evolution ? This is a terrible indictment of modern education standards is it not ?

Darwin would be spinning in his grave at how little we have evolved in the last 150 years...

If 21% of people believed in Fairies and Leprechauns or The Easter Bunny I suspect there would be a rather violent backlash and formal policies would be put in place to stop the descent into fantasy.

The words "mental illness" would no doubt be brandished around at the believers... Mental hospitals would be full to capacity and I can imagine Mental health specialists having a field day with the "fantasy derangement syndrome"...

Why is it that creationism is somehow given a special status ? I remain bemused and to be honest a little horrifed . 2010 and the results of this poll make it appear more like 1010 .

I just ran across this.....In Koontz's novel "Breathless" a mathematician proposes that even given 4billion years even the tiniest worm could not have evolved from a one-cell organism even if there had been a mutation in every one of a millionth of a second (used as a length of the smallest measure of time)
Also used that the minimal number of genes required to support cell function and reproduction in the simplest form of life would be 256.
I gather he wrote this because he purposely was slamming Darwin.
Is this anywhere near accurate or totally made up for the sake of the novel?

Trust me, I LOVE all of the ape videos. Really I do! However, I think the people who are posting them are missing the point. The point here is that there was most certainly a split between us and them (apes) over 1 million years ago. We both came from the same area (Africa) of the same planet. So what caused the split to occur? Again, an ape's level of intelligence is NOT the issue here. The issue here is the split that occured between us and them. My theory (and others) is a non-common ancestor.

IMO, this non-common ancestor is the reason why we speak, we lost our fur, we don't have thumbs on our feet, we have larger brains, we walk up-right, we build advanced machines, we come in SEVERAL different ethnic groups that speak different languages (which would suggest more than one race of non-common ancestors) etc......Somebody PLEASE give me another possible logical theory.

One other thing, every creature on this planet regulate their body temperature naturally (without the need for clothing). We seem to need clothes to stay warm. We discovered how to make our own fire (also to stay warm). This would suggest that MAYBE our non-common ancestor evolved on a much warmer planet than our present day Earth. Hmmmmmmmmmm?
