Homosexuals Mock 'Last Supper' With Sex-Toys Twist (broken link)

Organizers of San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair -- sponsored by Miller Brewing Co. -- have portrayed Christ and his disciples as half-naked homosexual sadomasochists in the event's promotional advertisement, and the conservative group Concerned Women for America is complaining about the hypocrisy of it.

I would love to add my comments but I am sure I would get banned.

Why do you think you'll be banned Citigirl? Personally I find this imagery an absolute mockery of the Christian faith. If the tables were turned and Christians were doing something like this to homosexuals the ACLU would be all over it. If this was a mockery to the Muslim faith then people would be losing jobs, international apologies would be sent to kings and up to allah himself.

In all seriousness why is this humorous? Why is this okay to do to the Christian faith? What if this was done to the Jews, atheists or any other people group...how would you honestly feel?

And Citigirl, I do appreciate your bringing this topic to our attention. Do you happen to know if Kathy Griffin took the photo?

Yeah, it's a bit tasteless... but isn't it great that we live in a free country, where you're allowed to do this?? And even if it were a Jewish image, I wouldn't be offended, since my skin isn't that thin. As a Jew, we HAVE to grow thick skin, since we're constantly the butt of jokes & hatred - so I'm sorry if I don't feel sympathy for a Christian joke, but it's nothing new to the minorities in this country. At least it's all in fun, rather than hate, which is something I've experienced even on this board (like a few days ago, where I had to ban someone for anti-Semitic comments towards me). Plus, growing up in San Francisco, it takes a lot to shock me... LOL.

No offense to the above posters (or anyone else here), but why is the response to this stuff always "what if it were a Jewish/Muslim/Buddhist/etc. joke?" I've answered that many times, including in my post above, but guess people still don't get it... we ARE the butt of jokes & disrespect, every single day!! When my public school teachers forced me to make Christmas ornaments every year, despite the fact that I had no tree to put them on; when people giggle if they hear a Hebrew word, or say "what the heck is that thing?" toward a non-Christian religious symbol; when my high school history teacher tried to fail me, for missing a test that was scheduled on Yom Kippur; all the times I've heard nasty comments about Jews, or accidentally stumbled across a hateful anti-Semitic website; and I could go on.

That's why I get so annoyed when Christians, the religious majority & "leaders" of this country, complain about harmless jokes... not that I'm defending the jokes, but it's nothing compared to what we experience on a regular basis. And I'm not just talking about messing with images, or trying to remove a prayer from a public school - I'm talking about HATE and intolerance on a level you can't imagine. Some of the stuff I've heard is so awful, I cannot even bring myself to repeat them here... but to summarize, there are people in this country (and this forum) who think we shouldn't exist, and would be happy to take care of the problem themselves. Okay, I'm done ranting....

You know it's not about having thin skin at all. I've heard that comment more than once in the past week or two. When Christians say we're offended then it's thin skin...but if it's another faith then they get all the apologies.

And while you think it's all in fun it's because you're not on the same end of it as us. And truly, it's not the end of my world that this has happened...it makes me more sad that people hate Christianity so much they are willing to do something like this.

Okay I do understand where you're coming from. But please, remember we are not all like that school teacher, the government leaders or those that would make horrible anti-semitic remarks. It's completely uncalled for and I for one would stand up for you any day of the week and kick some butt. I don't look at you as a Jewish woman, but as a friend. The fact that you are Jewish is a bonus because I get good recipes from you....which if you remember I'm still waiting on.

LOL Hoosier, and I do understand what you're saying... and I stand up for Christians often, when I feel they're being discriminated against or disrespected. But in my opinion, there's a difference between joking & being hateful, and we HAVE to separate the two - otherwise the real atrocities will be ignored/mocked. Btw, I'm a resident of San Francisco, and haven't seen this poster anywhere... and fyi, the Folsom street fair has nothing to do with homosexuality.

P.S. I have a great Sephardic (middle-eastern Jewish) recipe for you! It's originally for short-ribs, but my Aunt made it with a Brisket - yummmmmmy.

One more thing... how do you know the people in the poster are homosexual? There are both men and women in it, and believe it or not, plenty of straight people practice S&M! And yes, I realize the news "reporter" said they were, but it's not like you quoted the SF Examiner, or any other well-established (i.e. credible) news source.

Edit: I don't usually quote wikipedia, but here's a little background on CNS News... Cybercast News Service - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Much to my NON-surprise, it's a conservative news source. Nothing wrong with that, but it should inform anyone logical to take their stories with a grain of salt - just as I'd do with a liberal-spun source.
