If you're curious and have some time, here is an episode of South Park regarding Mormonism:

All About Mormons (Season 7, Episode 12) - Full Episode Player - South Park Studios

(It's a free legal stream of the episode.)

If you do decide to watch it, make sure to watch the whole thing. Also note that if you are particularly squeamish around bad language, then maybe South Park isn't the show for you.

They also did the musical The Book of Mormon, which I haven't seen. It won the Best Musical Tony Award.
In case this hasn't been mentioned - they also did the movie Orgazmo, in which the main character is a Mormon man who becomes a porn star, muich to the consternation of his soon-to-be-wife mormon girlfriend.

Best scene: "Dad, I don't wanna pratice Hamster-Style anymore."
"Ok."

I just wanna know - is it true that I'll get my own planet to impregnate vast hordes of nubile young women? I had a Mormon friend who devoutly believed something along these lines.

Because if that's the case, and my significant other isn't reading this.... heh heh!

No, it isn't.

So what would be the sense in following all those Mormon rules if you don't get laid a lot in Heaven?

The guy who created the show used to be Mormon, take that however you will….but honestly, I just think this thread was created to get crazy debated reactions between people who belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or "Mormons" and other religious or non-religious people. Belonging to this church, I strongly believe people are just misinformed about our beliefs and what our standards are. We don't think everyone's going to hell and we don't believe we're the only right ones. The Book of Mormon musical is offensive to me because it's all about how these two boys who set out to serve missions end up leaving the church while on the mission. i know this happens, but I don't think it should be held up high in the sight of others who know nothing about our church. It's just mean and showing how people leave the church, and it's against what we are trying to share with the world, which is the goodness of our gospel teachings and the truth of Another Testimant of Jesus Christ (The Book of Mormon). People change religions or leave their faiths all of the time, and that doesn't get critically acclaimed for a great movie or musical on broadway, but when Mormons do something wrong or different, apparently it's "okay." I'm not saying everyone thinks this, but it seems like a lot of people do, and it's the people who've been offended by one or two things or they don't do their research to earnestly find out what the religion is about.

Maybe you should read what I just wrote and do some serious research and actually talk to someone who is Mormon. They're not rules, they're guidelines and everyone has free will to follow them or not. They're meant to keep us healthy happy and safe. You're making it sound like we get lots and lots of sex with everyone, and that isn't even religion, that's some stupid fantasy.

Not at all, I was a bit disappointed to find the thread concentrating on Mormonism. What I was hoping for was to show fundamentalists of any religion how stupid it is to think that a merciful, loving God would send people of honestly mistaken beliefs to hell. The show's creators were lampooning that idea, with all those people who'd done good in their lives ending up there just because they screwed up on their theology.

It doesn't have anything to do with Mormonism per se. In fact it's directed mostly at Protestant fundies and Catholics, who are the main groups thinking you'll go to hell if mistaken about particular religious beliefs (eg Jesus is God, Jesus isn't God but is/is not a special creation above human level; the wafer eaten on Sundays is literally Jesus or is not, or shouldn't be offered, etc)

First of all, Woof, any thread that contains the word "Mormon" or "Mormonism" is bound to turn into precisely what this one has turned into, regardless of the intent of the OP. Secondly, it looks to me as if you're encouraging the mud-slinging a bit yourself.

Thanks for posting that link. I really enjoyed it, and what it proves, is that *people* should be as they need to be, and that is *have an open mind* !!!

If you do not know what *literary freedom* is, now you should know ...

I think, if you have been on both sides of the fence it is way easier to accept !

This bit from South Park is actually poking fun at all religions. They could easily have said that some other religion was correct. They just happen to have a thing for Mormons. And the episode specifically about Mormonism does poke fun at the religion - but makes it clear that they think Mormons are super nice people and so it really shouldn't matter if you agree with their religion or not.
