They absolutely love the implicit threat of violence that it is to insist that eternal suffering will take place for whatever sin they happen to care about.
Centuries ago, such individuals were first in line to volunteer to operate the rack, or light the pile of wood below the victim tied to the stake, for whatever offense - heresy, witchcraft, disbelief, and certainly homosexuality. And if they didn't get that honor, they certainly savored every horrific minute of the show.
Don't doubt that many such people profoundly regret the same thing can't be done today to those they deem heretical or sinful or merely wrong.
Are you lumping every Christian in with what you saw from one guy that professes it?
Lol, I can assure you I don't lump all Christians in with Christians such as yourself. (That's why I've used a qualifier. Very handy linguistic tool. )
Christians are talking about things that actually believe in. Atheists CLAIM to simply "lack belief". I am merely wondering why one would go to the expense and hassle of declaring things one DOES NOT believe in. It seems like a waste of time.
Just because YOU feel that it is a waste of time, does not make it harassment. I think many billboards are a waste of time, but I don't call them harassing.

Would it be harassment if I were to erect a billboard calling any people group stupid?

Soooooo...... tell us: Do YOU think a Hail Mary works?
Not the football kind. The Catholic kind. The billboard is aimed at a Catholic prayer and you spend a LOT of time telling everyone the Catholics are wrong. The irony is scrumptious!

No. Putting up a billboard isn't harassment since you can just ignore it if you want to. Harassing someone would be getting in their face and ranting about how they're stupid, evil etc. What's interesting is that the Christians getting angry over this have no problem harassing others.
Where did I say such a thing? I don't understand why it's that important to someone that they'd bother themselves with it. I don't believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but you don't see me putting up billboards to tell the world about it. It just seems like a massive waste of time and money. I have no idea what can motivate a person to do such a thing and I cannot relate to it.

I'm not angry about this. I don't think many people are. If anything, I'm perplexed. I just can't relate to the crazy thinking that is behind it.
