Interesting video. Worth taking a few minutes to watch.

And not just any God, but specifically the one you already believe in. Such a fortunate coincidence.

Oddly enough, such a stunning discovery has not yet made it to mainstream news outlets.

Did you watch the video? My guess is no...since you responded pretty quickly. But you are spouting off about how dumb you think it is. Way to be open-minded there, freak.

I watched the video.

A) "Science" has not discovered god. The presentation represents the opinion of one person, not the scientific community.

B) The statement "that is the Bible definition of god" is false. The Bible goes far beyond a simple creator to set things in motion. It goes on to describe an entity with specific characteristics, specific motivations, and a specific program for the humans it supposedly created.

It is an interesting concept, but there is a huge leap from some physical laws (not necessarily the ones we know and understand. See Paul Davies' nice article...) that "predate" the singularity and a "God", a transcendent, sentient being. There is some semanitc slight of hand going on here, as we go from "natural laws" to "forces", two very different things. We then start talking about the forces acting on the physical, as if the mathematics defining gravity is acting on a mass directly instead of being a mathematical description of the force itself. and again there is the word "creates" an ever popular slight of hand that implies agency. Assuming there are some set of laws governing physical interactions that exist outside of time itself, to say that these laws "created" the universe is as misleading as saying that the law of gravity casued an apple to fall. The force of gravity caused Newton's apple to fall, the gravitational laws define ( or at least approximately describe ) the behavior of that force.

As far as the video in particular, I think he glosses over the fact that there are a multitude of theories that postulate "something" outside of the big-bang. If we are going to start guessing at something that in entirely unobservable, why not assume that the laws and principles governing the initial singularity were part of some other brane or different bubble in the "quantum foam"? Why immediately label a phenomenon which, if you avoid semantic skullduggery, bears no resemblance to what we see in anybody's holy book a god?

The truth is, we don't know. To take that lack of knowledge and slap a "God" label on it is simply a highly educated, impressively credentialed version of the God of the Gaps. It is a nice presentation, but ultimately very unconvincing.

Stephen Hawking says that the Universe doesn't require God to exist.

To be fair the guy in the video has an MIT scientific background (At least that what he claims)........essentially he isn't saying anything new though............he says there are gaps in our knowledge.........therefore the "God of the Gaps" must exist.

It's very telling that many human brains are hard-wired to believe that ignorance is "evidence" for a god.

In fact, the whole creationist movement is based on that line of reasoning.
