If it just goes blank/dark/black when we die...what does anything matter?

Lazarus says no - it doesn't 'just go dark' when we die.
He spent the next 30 years telling whats important!

He had plenty of witnesses, so I'll side with him!

That sounds very interesting. I would like to read Lazerus' account of what being dead was like. Where might I find his account? I would also like to read the accounts of the "plenty of witnesses." Where might I find them?

I bet we all, including Christians, would be interested in that.

With the reserve logic and tweak in your text, this also turns “Brilliant†to understand how Atheists go about living their day to day life. Isn’t it?

Most of us go about living our day to day life very much in the same manner as Christians do. Except that we get to stay home on Sunday mornings and watch football.

Stop the broad brush painting.
I do NOT watch football!
I do often go to the grocery store on Sunday mornings hoping the church goers are otherwise occupied

As an atheist I am often painted with the broad brush of being a Godless communist. But if you don't watch football on Sunday morning then YOU must be a communist!

Why must we have a purpose?

We're born, we live, we die.

It's the circle of life, just as every/any other sentient being experiences.

Just because we have opposable thumbs does not make us better.

We fear death, therefore we invent an afterlife.

Shakespeare: To die is to sleep, perchance to dream.

Which is why we have to police. But even without the police, many people do not want to do bad things.
Thats because they live in the same secular society, there are laws against murder, stealing, rape, etc.

These laws are in place as a deterrent, while some people still choose to commit these crimes and pay the price, it keeps many from doing those things, (the fear of punishment)

IF there was no law, no punishment, there would be no right or wrong, one person may think its 'right' to NOT go out and steal or kill, but another person may have the opposite opinion...if there was no 'standard', NO laws, no possibility of punishment, both would be 'right', there would be no 'wrong'

The way we are raised has the most to do with what we consider to be right and wrong as adults.

The Golden Rule is embraced by just about every spiritual practice.

It's what we need to practice to live an ethical life without harming others...

Seems so simple in theory -- but difficult for many to practice.
