Religion must not be very convincing. Are the majority of American just now realizing it’s just a fairy tale?
In 2020, 47% of U.S. adults belonged to a church, synagogue or mosque
Down more than 20 points from turn of the century
Change primarily due to rise in Americans with no religious preference

From the very link posted in OP, Gallup in 2021 reports, "The U.S. remains a religious nation, with more than seven in 10 affiliating with some type of organized religion. "
"Church membership" [47%] is not an indicator of association with a religion [over 70%].
"Church membership" is also not an indicator of belief.
A 2013 poll by UPI/Harris showed that three-quarters of U.S. adults, that is 75% believe in God
A 2017 poll by Gallup showed for the US 87% said yes they believe in God.
A 2017 Pew poll shows in the US 80% said yes they believe in God.
And even among the non-affiliated in the USA (those who do not identify with a specific religion) Pew reports in 2018: Belief in a deity is common even among the religiously unaffiliated – a group composed of those who identify themselves, religiously, as atheist, agnostic or “nothing in particular,” and sometimes referred to as religious “nones.” Indeed, nearly three-quarters of religious “nones” (72%) believe in a deity or higher power
Breakdown of the "nones" shows this regarding their belief in deity, for those who describe themselves as "atheist" 18% believe in a higher power or spiritual force "agnostic" 65% believe in a higher power, spiritual force or God
and "no specific religion" 88% believe in God, higher power, or spiritual force.

I have asked this question numerous times lately: but what does that mean?
I know people -- both christians and Buddhists -- who will tell you (if you ask) that they are christian or Buddhist...but they do virtually nothing about that label. For them it has become a label, and little more.

Believing in God and believing in fairy tale religious beliefs are two completely different things.
Over 70% of Americans identify with organized religion.

As I noted in another thread when these same data were cited, much depends on how the questions are asked (in this or any other survey). 87% may say yes if simply asked "Do you believe in God?".... but the percentage drops considerably (to 64%) if you probe whether they are actually convinced that God exists. One interpretation being that nearly a quarter of people believe in something they recognize might not be real.
For me, the most interesting part of the results in OP, apart from the arbitrary threshold (50% majority) being breached, is the breakdown by age group. In the most recent period, church membership drops from 66% in those born before 1946, to 58% for Boomers, to 50% for Gen X, to 36% for Millennials. The trends over the 80 years Gallup has been tracking are unmistakable, and all signs point to that continuing with successive generations.
Pew report in 2014 on Importance of religion in one's life
Data shows that 77% of adults say religion is important in their life.
That 77% = 53% say religion is "very important in their life" and 24% say religion is "somewhat important" in their life.
Over 70% of Americans identify with organized religion.

It bothers them so much that the vast majority of people are Religious/Theist/Spiritual...that they actually post & cheer a poll that shows some downturn in church attendance.
They post and cheer on a internet forum, the possibility that there is less of a participation & interest in the title subject of the forum. How miserable can ya get?!!
Your noted data has them all tweaked out!
Well then, it will make it easier for the Buttercups to suck up that data showing 70% embrace a organized Religious Theology.
