Apparently there was a gospel of Mary Magdalene but it was not included in the bible. Probably because it did not fit in with the idea of women that prevailed at the time, and still does in some minds.
Probably because women were for the most part illiterate in those days, and if they weren't, it would have been unlikely their writings would have been taken seriously.
On the other hand...We don't really know exactly who were all the Biblical writers. Rosenberg and Bloom wrote a book called "The Book of J" in which they postulate that the "J" (Yahwist) writer of the Old Testament was indeed a woman, writing in the time of David.
Read the entire Bible which is not too fond of the female sex and you will see why. If women wrote the Bible, Adam would be a real punk, Jezebel would be a "strong woman" and men would be the harlots.

So were the men. So were the old guys who chose the books to be in the bible at the Council of Nicea. Being able to read and write is not a criteria for writng a biblical book. The just hired scribes.
