My question now is on wind. I read a lot of post describing how windstorms are a problem. How much of a problem is it ? Is there any place better than others? We plan to move to northern Nevada in the next few months, and are deciding whether we want to live in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, or Minden. Employment, eating out, shopping, and social life are not of utmost importance to us, but flooding and wind are. Thank you.

It is VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, EXTREMLY windy in Carson/minden/gardnerville/washoe/Reno.

Last Spring several cars were turned over from the wind on 395. Carson City has had several Trucks and Cars turn over this past years killing people.

could anyone please tell me how the casino industry is there? i am a cocktail server currently looking to possibly relocate there from Vegas. Do cocktail servers start off on extra board (on call) or start on graveyard? anyone know the average hourly wage there for servers in the casinos? ( not including tips)

you need to contact the casinos to find accurate info.......From what I see in Carson the tips are BAD.. you may want to look into TAHOE more high end clientele. Reno also looks sad when it comes to people who call giving a quarter a tip.

The wealthy live, play and visit Tahoe and You have a nicer environment then Reno/Carson in my opinion.

All true. I worked in South Shore for 6 years (in the slot department) and made quite good money. I cashed out tokes for the waitresses and saw firsthand they weren't doing shabby either. People I've talked to here in Carson paint quite a different picture of here.

crime rate in Reno is low compared to most urban cities. It very safe. It is windy but, the snow fall is much less then Tahoe, Carson, areas. the lower you are the less snow. You will get some but, it will be gone by mid day.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. on Reno. I lived there about 25 years ago--my son was born there. My issue: I am now 56 years old, single, and considering moving back. I was just laid off from my job as an environmental planner in TN. I am very interested in working at an animal shelter-but would need to supplement that income with extra $$. I don't want to live in an apt. and have a small dog. Is it possible to rent a portion of a house with someone in a similar life situation as mine? How is the crime in Reno? Since I love the outdoors, would it be better to move to Tahoe/Truckee, etc.?
