Ok so I moved into this house in Champaign Il. Some bad tenants moved in with me and had to get them kicked out which only happened after I a month of me telling my land lord to get them out. Then came another person who stayed for 5 months never payed rent or signed the lease so had to kick them out and am now stuck with their portion of unpaid rent which i understand. The pluming that drains into the city sewer is illegally connect in the house. It broke one day so i called a plummer who then informed me that the whole set up down there was illegal and he would lose his job if he messed with it and to tell my land lord he would need a new pip placed correctly. I told my land lord and he convinced me to fix it myself. Does this hold any sway in court or legally since it was illegal before i moved in and has been ever since?? Thank you for all info about this kinda thing.

First of all consult a lawyer.

In my opinion ... You knew it was illegal when YOU made the ILLEGAL repair. Move. Slumlord is not your friend.

Frankly not sure what the question is...

When you rent a residence and something goes wrong you should call the landlord, not a plumber. It is the landlord's responsibility to keep the plumbing working.

You are not a plumber so you can't lose your license for messing with illegal plumbing.

Your landlord sounds like a goof, but that ain't illegal, if he had to "help" kick out the bad tenants that moved in with you did he also modofy the lease so that you would have reduced rent?

The five month of rent that never got paid are probably on you.

You have to pay your rent even if your landlord is a goof.

Champaign is not known to have the finest building inspectors, if you "dropped a dime" on your landlord it might take quite a while before anyone checks things out.
