Read your lease and find the clause about breaking the lease. Read your state laws regarding breaking leases. Generally speaking, it's bad to not pay your rent and it will cause an eviction, despite the bugs. There are laws and procedures to be followed and you can't just not pay because you aren't happy with something.

Google NY or NYC and "tenant union." I'm pretty sure NY has great tenant unions that can answer your questions about what to do.

One time I moved into an apartment and discovered some roaches in the kitchen....ugh! However, as soon as I brought my cat in, he took care of that problem!

If everyone who saw a roach in NY moved out, the state would be empty.

Inform your landlord. If the landlord doesn't treat for the roaches, invest the $8 to buy a tube of Combat Gel. Follow the directions.

I really hate when people ask a question then delete it. I should have quoted it.

I'll do it for you.

I deleted it because I resolved my issue and couldn't figure out how to delete the question. Seesh!!

I Signed a year-lease for my apartment starting March 1st. I saw the apartment twice and asked is there were any bug problems that I needed to be aware of. I was told "absolutely not." Well, one week in, I started to come across roaches all over the apartment. This is something I can not deal with at all!

I immediately contacted our super and the exterminator has been to my apartment, and everyone in my building, apartment every weekend in March. The problem is not getting any better. I have not slept in my apartment the last two weeks I haven't even finished unpacking. I refuse to buy furniture. I am so disgusted. I wrote a letter stating the problem and all my encounters and sent it to the rental office where I signed my lease this Monday.I got an email that the letter will be forwarded on to their supervisor and they will contact me with the next steps this week. Still haven't heard anything back. It's Friday.

I know in my heart I cannot stay here. I haven't been sleeping there. I make every effort not to step foot in the apartment unless necessary . I cringe when I have to open a cabinet or turn on a light. This is no way to live.
Rent is due today. And I want out. What should I do? I don't want to pay for somewhere where I am not even living at. What is the best way to get out of this lease! It has only been 30 days!

By the way, I have already found another apartment. I am out of here by May 1st no matter what. I just need advice on the best way to go about this.
