I have posted on this forum about 7 months ago on a forced relocation. I moved to a crappy unit and had a 9 months lease. They paid for the move ($190). That lease will end on Sept. 30, 2019. I went in and payed for this month like I have done for the last 10yrs. Never been late. I thought that would be the end of it. Nope!

They now want to charge me $500 to move. What? Is this legal?

Thanks,
Robert

It's only legal if it was agreed to in your lease.

That's what see said. I cannot locate it though.

But, why can they not be decent and tell a prospective tenant that when you move, their is a fee associated?

I've been here for about 10 yrs and most of the tenants that I know, just move.

Moving. My contract is finished on Sep. 30 and I cannot afford the almost 40% increase in rent. Plus, this place is not worth it.

What, specifically, is it for? It would have to be itemized somehow.

I do not know. She just said it was to move out. Never heard of someone paying to move after their lease agreement has ended.

What if I just move? Why would a multi-million dollar complex sue someone over $500? If they rent my current unit, they would recoup that in just 2 months.

What are my options?

Thanks,
Robert

They’re going to be limited to what is outlined in your lease. It is almost certain that you will need to provide some type of notice, usually 30 or 60 days.

You need to clarify what this fee is for. It would have to be listed in your lease and attributed to something specific.

I just browsed through the lease and it is 30 day notice. However, that time has passed. Should I give a notice today? Although, I know that will not help. You do not know this PM. She is NOT tenant oriented. Everybody hates her. All she wants is the money!

Do you know where this 'moving fee' would be locate or what it would be labeled/listed under?

Robert
