Hello!! I have been living in my apartment for over a year and a half now.. and I am really sick of these white walls. My landlord said no painting and quite honestly I dont want too.. its just too much work anyway. I was wondering though if anyone has ever tried the process of putting frabic on the wall with spray starch? If so how does it look in the end? Is it a lot of work? Any other ideas would be nice too. Thanks!

I've not heard of putting it on with starch. I
I have seen it put on with curtain rods on the top and bottom along a wall. Use a plain fabric or textured fabic in a color you like. Stretch it on the rods and it will give you an accent.
Maybe the spray glue will hold the fabric. It may hold it and not be too strong to not be peeled off when you eventually move.
Or if there is a technique for starch, try it on a small spot and see how it works. let us know what you do so more can learn.

I wouldn't recommend it, mainly because of the amount of parasites that would thrive in open fabric. You try to minimize cardboard, paper, and fabric to keep these pests from breeding in such perfect conditions. Fleas can lay 500 eggs in their lifetime. Bacteria and other nasty things like fabric too. Try to keep your home nonporous and able to be cleaned. Just my opinion...

Why don't you just create some HUGE wall art? You could build a "frame" and stretch some fabric over that and staple gun it to the frame. Hang it and viola...Huge fabric art work on the walls.

What Danielle said. I did this with my dorm in college and in my first apartment. Came out great using 1x2 as the frame. You can also use 12x12 pieces of plywood that have been upholstered with a fabric and attach with some of that putty stuff. This looks real neat too but is a bit more costly for the plywood and foam.

Dont do it. Roaches will come to visit to eat your starch.

Teachers use to use that trick on bulletin boards in schools. It can be difficult to make it stick just right and thats putting it on a board first.

I live in a loft...white huge walls. I was told that it was okay to paint, but decided to make my own wall art. I used black contact paper and made some really cool designs. Here is a link to something similar:

DIY Vinyl Wall Art

It was alot cheaper than buying those pre-made decals. They peel off with ease too.

I remember in elementary school the art teacher had paper on these giant rolls, not sure if this is a possibility. otherwise, I would just make a "collage", and just put up several smaller size piece of paper/posters that can either make a complete picture or true collage

Try Vinyl Wall art. THere is a site called www.simplysaiddesigns.com and you can choose the design, color anything you want. The good thing is they won't ruin your wall, they stick to anything. Wood, metal, glass, rough surfaces just about anything. They come off when you are done and your walls will be back to plain old white.... lol but give it a look.
