Amazon.com is one of the BEST things out there. Boy have they made life much more efficient and easier. I use them for whatever I can now. If anyone doesn't have the Amazon Prime membership at $79 a year it's the BEST thing to get. Free 2 day shipping on most items. Plus, if you happen to be near a shipping center then many items come free overnight.
I probably order something from them at least 3 times a week. Sometimes it's a bit embarrassing how small some of the items I buy are but with the free delivery I don't care how small it is. The other day I ordered some white out and some paperclips and tape.
My last purchase last week that fits into your $50 would be this beach umbrella that I just got a few days ago.
For me, books. Books are the only thing I've ever purchased on Amazon. Don't purchase them real often because I am a heavy used of libraries, but sometimes there are books that I want/need to have permanently to hand.
Escort Rider,
I know people like you that only buy books on Amazon but I've really encouraged several friends to sign up for the Prime Membership and most have. They didn't realize that there is so much on Amazon. Just about anything you buy in a store they have it online. Especially with you being in Los Angeles, they have a distribution center there so you can get many things the next day. Free delivery. Being in San Diego I often get things delivered the next day so I imagine if you are in LA you probably can get things definitely by the next day. Many of the things I order come from the LA distribution center.
Maybe you don't buy a lot of things but most people still go through things for their home office, house, etc.
I have a friend that signed up and believe it or not he said he gets some groceries and cereal from Amazon.com. He still works quite a bit so he orders and he said it's home at his doorstep waiting for him when he gets home.
Of course being retired many of us have more time to kill. But even with the high price of gas, it saves a fortune from having to go out around town to find things.
If you have an Iphone they even have this cool App from Amazon where you can scan a UPC bar code from anything and it will automatically pull it up and then you just press a button and you can automatically order it easily. I love this technology.
That's not clever or funny. Would you want someone to say that to your mother or grandmother or other elderly relative? This forum is for older people who grew up in a more courteous and decorous time.
Hearing aid batteries, a couple of packs of Depends, and some Icy Hot patches.
I am downsizing, and only buy what will fit in my cubby at the nursing home.
LOL should've thought of that. I'm getting rid of so much and have to be careful of buying back the very same things I've given away. I've done that. Accumulation is not something I want to do. But what I do buy now I imagine using frequently for the rest of my life, something I can't get in a library. I would buy collections of (some) poetry or essays, but never novels. I can get novels at the library or at resale shops for pennies, and then give them back. I am often tempted to buy something and I say "what for? you already have enough of that." So for me this interesting exercise gave me pause for thought.
