I'd thought about retiring. I have more than my minimum cash saved. But before I go. Just gotta get a few things done.
Put New Roof on House $7K
Put New Engine in one of my Hobby Cars $5K
Put New Driveway on House $3-$4K
Purchase New Refrigerator $2K
Save another $25K for Emergency
Did anyone else make a "getaway" list before they pulled the trigger? What was on it?
Absolutely!!! Already accomplished below
-New Roof
-new front doors and new storm doors
-repaint whole downstairs
-installed 4 inch crown molding down stairs
-replaced central air and new heating system
-put on 20x20 new deck
still have to
-get outside house painted
-install new fence
-install new front and back lawn
Collect them for what? Isn't that a child's hobby. I like them flying about freely, not stuck to some board.
It's just an excuse to trick someone into running thru the poison ivy into the swamp.
I wouldn't do it myself, I have no use for collecting anything ever again. I leave that to scientists and kids.
You a fan of John J. Audubon? Guess how he got all those birds to hold still for his paintings?

Ha ! They were still, alright. I still feel bad for the passenger pigeons ;(
The most effective moves I made prior to retirement was the avoidance of anything that required a monthly financial or time commitment. The second most effective move I made was the mental commitment to avoid any major purchase or major activity requiring either a financial or a time investment within the first year of retirement. So much of our life is work focused during the work period that we need some downtime after the end of work to re focus.
1) Get house ready to sell....check

5) move to a better and cheaper state...check
6) buy house that meets our needs....check
7) fix up new house....almost done
8) improve my golf game...well I'm trying!!!
When we moved up to NJ in the all time worst time to buy a house as prices were so inflated before the big drop the house we bought according to Trulia and Zillow is worth about $120,000 less today. We also put in about $50,000 or repairs and updates and i still have the following to get done:
-get outside house painted
-install new fence
-install new front and back lawn
My question is being we have taken so big of a hit so far and if i add another $35k the Realtors will get when they sell my house, should i go to the expense and get these things done or should i just give the potential new buyer some money off the final offer.
Thoughts??
