My husband and I prefer to order from the senior menu when it's available but some places don't offer that. Recently I was asking our server if I could order from the child's menu, it's a smaller portion like from a senior menu, anyway they didn't allow it.
I guess I don't really understand that, I mean as long as you order the food, it shouldn't matter. We could share a meal but we don't always want the same things, he eats some things I don't care to eat. I ended up having over half my meal leftover which is a huge waste. We couldn't take it with us because we were out of town. The man in the booth across from us laughed and said to call him the next time we go out, he said he'd come along and just eat my leftovers. I have actually been in a couple of places that said no sharing of plates that weren't buffet's.
I wish everyone offered a senior menu.

So, do y'all order from senior menu's?

No. We rarely eat out, considering most restaurant food to be poison. We sometimes eat at a fresh fish place and have side veg's without oils or dressings. Love to eat at home. Anyway, senior menus mean childsize portions around here. And that doesn't fill us up.

It's very simple: the restaurant is in business to make money and they're not going to make much by letting two adults order off of the discounted children's menu. In fact, they could actually lose money when you consider everything involved with serving you. They don't mind selling children's portions to children at a loss because they would have mom & dad's items to make up for it.

We don't eat out when we're home but on the road we do and while on vacation. I generally get a nice salad, veggies or seafood when possible unless it's just iceberg which I don't care for. I like the real mixed green salads.

Order a dinner salad and the smallest appetizer they have on the menu.
Order a dinner salad and pick off your husband's plate.

Order dessert and nothing else

This is the way my husband and I did it:

He wanted steak, potatoes and bread. He didn't like salad so I ate his salad with an appetizer or a side order of fries or both. If we ate some place that had a special dessert, I would order one, ask for an extra plate and we would split it. We did it so often that we did it without thinking.

If I go out with a friend now, I expect to bring about half of the meal home. The portions are much too large most places. We have senior discounts here but I've never seen senior portions offered. Sometimes you can order from the lunch menu. It doesn't hurt to ask.

makes me miss my partner

Places that aren't offering senior menu don't really want to attract a senior crowd. Go elsewhere where your business is appreciated. Vote with your wallet!

We order from senior menus when it's a lower price for the same item, and we sometimes go to places where there is a senior discount. We do it to take advantage of a way to save a couple of dollars, not for smaller portions. In fact I have yet to order a senior meal that was smaller than the regular one, or to see different items than were on the regular menu. Other than getting a kid's meal at McD I never heard of a restaurant letting adults order from a child's menu. I agree that you could simply order appetizers, but better yet, go to Happy Hour.

I order an appetizer when the meals are too big (from past experience).

One or two appetizers is just as good as a small meal.
