No. I eat when I want and what I want. I run a 500-700 sq ft garden and can and cook really well, even though I am vegetarian. I LOVE to eat ! To keep my weight down, I dance, swim, hike and do the treadmill.
Two meals here, too. We have always been night owls, so we have breakfast about 1pm and dinner around 6:30 or 7. We usually have a light snack either before or after dinner, sometimes both.
I can also vouch for exercise not causing weight loss. I exercise strenuously four times a week, about 80 minutes each session, and it's been great for a lot of reasons but has done nothing to help me lose weight. If anything, I've gained weight because muscle weighs more than fat. I do think I look good for my weight, though, and my BP/heart rate are very low for my age (65). Last time I had a checkup, the doctor came in, looked at my chart, didn't believe the BP the assistant had written down, so he took my BP again -- twice!
Exercise, apparently, works for some and not for others for weight loss.
DH, out of boredom, got hired at a favorite local park as a groundskeeper. He does two long days of serious physical work. Three months later, he's off one of his blood pressure medications, and he's no longer pre-diabetic.
But, he's also down 15 pounds to his ideal weight, and he's having to hunt around in the kitchen to find more food to get enough calories into him. (He's also aware of the "gotcha" - when he stops working like this he's gonna' need to stop eating like this.)

I agree with you. About 1.5 years ago hubby started exercising for about an hour on most days on various machines at our activity center, and at Planet Fitness when he is out of town working. He really hasn't changed his eating habits very much, yet he has managed to lose 40 pounds, and decrease both his cholesterol and BP meds. In fact he thinks his BP med is still too high as he gets light-headed sometimes, so is going to ask the doc if he can stop that when he goes in 2 weeks.
What about it scares you so? I'm 66 and do about 80 minutes most days, sometimes more. Another 40 minutes probably wouldn't bother me, it's just that I'm not inclined.
How much time a day do you spend exercising? And what was your basis for determining that amount?
It scares me that even with 2 hours of exercise I'm having trouble keeping weight down.
I've always been on a diet, and now it seems I have to cut my intake in half.
I began reducing intake about two months ago - but still eat everything I want - including ice cream - only in slightly smaller portions - except bakery of any kind which has been eliminated entirely. Less activity now than two years ago. Nonetheless, have lost over 8 lbs. Scale shows small one-half pound losses each week, sometimes a pound. I notice no ill effects; find it's much easier lately for me to go up and down steps, get up from a squat or when on the floor, also have less hip/back trouble, fewer chiro visits. Would like to drop another 15.
As someone else said upthread, it really starts w/portion control - then exercise for fitness - and, if you're lucky, possibly some additional weight loss from that exercise.

exercise just makes me hungrier. i run 2.5 miles every other day . on those days i can eat and eat . i don't even get full ,my arm just gets tired from lifting a fork.
exercise without calorie restriction will not help weight much.
being on a diabetic diet the last 7 months has made not loosing more weight more important than watching calories. lost 30lbs in 7 months. i haven't been 169lbs since my twenty's
Wow, well I can understand the diabetic diet doing that. My weight in my 20's would be way too thin for me now. BMI then was 20.9. BMI now is 26.1. Shooting now for 24. Ate super good food back in the day, just not potatoes or bread, and very little dessert. Weight just stayed off. The starchy white carbs and sugar are the killers - insulin resistance and all that. When I began eating rolls/bread/potatoes/rice at dinner when eating out in my 40's is when I started to gain weight. Never ate that stuff before then. Bakery in the workplace didn't help, either.
