If I ever reach retirement I will sleep every night/day for at least 10 hours, maybe even 12 or more.

The few times since hitting my mid-20s that I've had that luxury (e.g. a "no alarm" scenario) I've gone 12+ (a few times 14+!).

Of course, this is what having sleep deprivation for most of my adult life has done to me.

Hopefully the impacts on my brain will not be horrible.

I do both a Tylenol PM (without the Acetemephine) and a Melatonin, before sleep, and sleep about 10 hours, with occasional get-up to urinate, in a urinal next to my bed. Too lazy to walk the 10 steps into the bathroom!

I love sleeping more than ever, and all those "free movies" that comes with it!

I'm still working part-time at 65 (6 months to go) and when I retire I plan to sleep even more, from 10 to 12 to maybe 14 hours a day!

What's there to miss with the world falling apart? The less I see of it the better!

At age 67, so far so good as far as sleep is concerned. I refuse to take any sleep medication at all, and still get 7-8 hours of sleep most nights, and just 6 hours once or twice a week. Plus naps which range from 20 minutes to an hour. Not too bad.

I do have to avoid any caffeine at all for 12 hours before I plan to sleep. See the Mayo Clinic website for a good list of hidden sources of caffeine. You'd be surprised at what has small amounts of caffeine in it.

Exercise during the day helps me to fall asleep, too.

Also, it seems to have become important for me to wind down during the hour or two before I go to bed.

Keeping a regular bedtime helps me, with a regular routine.

I set the alarm even though I am retired, because if I sleep too late I'll stay up too late the following night.

Works for me, so far. I expect that in my 70's sleep will become much more elusive.

tijlover, Tylenol PM contains: Acetaminophen 500 mg in each caplet. Diphenhydramine HCl 25 mg in each caplet.

So I'm not sure how you could be taking Tylenol or Tylenol PM without Acetaminophen.

Tylenol and Tylenol PM by definition contains Acetaminophen. Unless you mean you are taking another medication which you're just calling Tylenol PM.

I stopped buying Tylenol PM due to the ingredient of Acetaminophen. I now buy Wal-Mart's Equate Nighttime Sleep Aid which only contains the Diphenhydramine HCI 25mg. You can also buy it with 50mg.

I can agree with that but if I sleep in till 7 AM I feel like I've wasted half a day. lol When I wasn't working, and had no use for an alarm clock, I found out that I will sleep exactly 7 hours most of the time. Well, it WAS that way. Now it's about 6 hours. I was falling asleep in my recliner this afternoon so decided to lay on the bed and actually take a nap. I slept an hour and a half. Unusual for me but now it's after 10:00 and I'm not sleepy! I may not get much sleep tonight and have to be at work at 7 AM.

I kind of fit the stereotype, in bed a bit after midnight and up by around 6:00 - 6:30. About 20-25 times a year I'll suddenly wake up at something like 3:00 AM and find I can't go back to sleep, so I just resign myself to being a bit tired that day. Most days I'll nod off between 3:00 and 4:30 PM for a 10-30 minute nap.

Pretty rare for me to clock more than 6 or so hours of sleep in a night.

I usually sleep about 7-8 hours. But why is it when you have a day you can sleep in, then you are awake early?? Earlier this week we had something going on every day and had to get up early. I thought to myself "Thursday is a free day and I can sleep in a bit". Yeah, right. I woke up at 3am, laid in bed until 4:30 trying to get back to sleep and finally just got up and am now on the computer. And I didn't even go to sleep until after midnight! Going to be a long, long day. Especially since DH is going to be doing some work upstairs that involves a lot of pounding and other noisy tools, so no napping for me. And now my stomach thinks it's almost lunchtime and I haven't even had breakfast yet.

It use to be that I got roughly 5-6 hours sleep average but it's not consistent any more. some times I can go to bed around 10 and wake at 6 and still be sleepy during the day or go to bed at mid night and wake at 3 and be only some what sleepy during that day.
I have had so many jobs that shifted time ,and end up working all night 2 shifts , Some jobs were standard 8;-4;30 day after day so sleep patterns were never disrupted.
Falling asleep during the day is normal for me if I'm board or simply not doing any thing with my hands, and coffee has the reverse effect while driving I use it as a sleep aid.
No kidding. If I'm just not sleepy enough at night, I have a cup of coffee or two, and I'm ready for bed,
Been that way far back as I can remember.
But I'm weird .
I've been up an hour now and it's 4;40 am ,I may head back to bed in a few minuets , we'll see.
