fidelity has updated and revamped the RIP planner . you can access that on line .

they also have a new when to take social security tool which is not available on line .

we are going friday for a consultation and to run the scenarios in the new tool .

they told me it is quite sophisticated and requires a social security expert to be with us as well as our regular rep .

i will report back .

you need to have access to fidelity through your account . i don't believe outsiders can access it . you can try but i think it isn't guest accessible . it basically works straight off your accounts .

I like the fact that it's revamped....just wish they could call it something other than R.I.P.
Sounds too final. Lol

It's RPM, not RIP.

It says I'm 98% good for retiring at 66. Now to get everything but the house paid off and contribute the max to the 401(k) and IRA.

Its a new layout, and more user friendly, but still has bugs and some major deficits. For instance, it calculates the employer contribution wrong, a basic math statement. And it still always forces the use of Roth funds first for minimal taxes once retired, and no way to defer use of the Roth or calculate conversion from IRA to Roth. And I noticed it dropped estimated taxes paid as a column. It states "Congratulations on your Retirement " showing 2015 as retirement year, I assume because my wife is retired, but I'm not! The presentation of todays dollars cost/projections and future dollars cost is a nice feature, though, and getting a breakdown off the graph for each year is convenient.

I have been traveling for several months and my investments are on hold. I saw this thread and decided to logon to the Fidelity webpage. Yuck. Everything changed for no purpose that I could see but eventually I logged on to my account. Sad news there of course due to the stagnant markets. I could not find any tool that replaced the old retirement income tool. When I did locate what appears to be a new calculator I was informed that the calculator did not apply as I was already retired. Typical CR*P from investment houses. When you are working, they want to encourage you to invest more. When you are retired, you become dirt. They want to keep your investments but are not interested in helping you develop spending plans. Maybe when I return from my travels I will contact Fidelity but I doubt it unless I find some evidence that someone is interested in those of us who are already retired. I guess I just keep some of my portfolio with Fidelity to spread the risk. Otherwise TIAA/Cref seems more helpful. But then again I am only comparing a rotten apple with a bruised orange.

Most of use bemoan the devils on Wall Street. The typical financial planners and investment houses are no better.

it works just fine if already retired , maybe you are not looking at the right tool . in fact i always thought the numbers were a bit optimistic showing you needed less to produce more then firecalc does and firecalc sells you nothing . .

you need to go to calculator and tools , you won't see it there . click on view all tools . they now call it the retirement income strategy evaluator . i have not used it yet as we have a consultation on friday but there was always a box you checked that said already retired where you enter your income . .
