We bought a gorgeous vacation apartment on the Mediterranean in southern Spain and plan to winter there to avoid Washington state's rotten winter. The rest of the year it's rented out as a vacation rental to pay the note.

I agree, I don't like hot weather, or too much sun. Our 2-3 months of sun here suits me fine, and I would miss the clouds, rain and brief snow. It's much more enjoyable when you don't have to go out onto the icy roads to get to work.
I am an old man. I would love to spend winters in warmer climates. However I only speak English. It would have to be a country with low crime ,clean water and proper sewerage.
My husband and I aren't retired yet, and have 2 school aged children. We live in south Texas and hate the heat and humidity if the summers. We rent a VRBO for a month in cooler climates during the summer. Once was Park City for 5 weeks, and the past 2 summers we stayed in Victoria, Canada. Husband can usually only stay for 2 weeks due to work, the rest of the time I'm there with my kids.
We mainly started doing this to see where we wanted to retire. We are pretty sure we want to retire in the Pacific Northwest. Might be Canada, might be Washiongton state. Not sure yet. And there are some other places I would like to visit before deciding, and we have time.
But to answer the OP's question....I would in a heartbeat! We actually just got relocated to the Netherlands for 3 years, and we don't plan on returning back to the states at all while we are living here. We apwant to use our vacation time to visit places we would never otherwise be able to. My friends and family know where we live, amd are more than welcome to come visit!
We have the same policy when we go on our long summer vacations as well, and usually we have family that comes up during a portion of it so they get to enjoy it with us!
I ran into someone the other day who told me he winters in a rented home in a different city overseas each year. It's usually for four months (Mid January to Mid April). He uses something like VRBO and rents a furnished unit and lives the life of a native. This year he is going to Ecuador.
If you could afford it, would you consider it or would you miss the United States family and friends?
Yes, of course. given hat I plan to travel as much as my finances will allow.
