so our total medical this year was 6200 for me , my wife is on medicare with a high deductible f-plan supplement and a drug plan that all runs about 3k .

we had about 500 in total deductibles and co-pays . but that is because we took a supplement with 2k deductible . so with no deductible the f-plan is another 2k a year .

so we spent about 10k for insurance with 1 of us on medicare with a max exposure of 2k for her and 2500 for me .

dental was our killer at 20k for the two of us . next year i will be on medicare .

I'll go work at Starbucks (or someplace) part-time to get medical before I ever pay 30k per yr on medical.

30k is not just insurance for a single .

you have to figure about 4800 per person on the exchange . but you have a deductible of 4k for a couple and out of pocket if you go in the hospital of up to 6200.00 each

so you have 9600.00 for insurance all in after tax dollars not pretax when working , plus 4k exposure to deductibles and 12,400.00 in out of pockets .

odds of two people maxing out everything is really zero .

you also have vision and dental not included .

i will be on medicare next year and my wife already is .

we also have a long term care plan at almost 7k for the two of us .

Yeah I get but I will avoid it like I said. Either subsidizing the fees or working part-time. Those costs need to be controlled...

Not a show stopper.

Realize that if you need ACA insurance from 60 to 64 those rates increase at a rapid rate due to age alone.

Also, ACA insurance rates in some areas are going up 40% this year alone.

For most people, retiring before Medicare age is just not feasible. There is no way to accurately predict your medical expense.

Good luck getting hired at Starbucks at age 60.
