Who said anyone was unhappy? We are not, we just want something different than what we have.

Nope.

They wouldn't think twice about a man doing what I did.

It's worked out great for me so far.
I get some "That sounds lonely!" Hel-looo, I'm all alone HERE...

I agree with Mikala43 - whoever said I was unhappy in NYC?! We just couldn't afford to retire and live there. We are happier here than we were in NYC - mostly because he is now retired. There's things about everywhere he or I have lived that we loved or hated but things don't determine personal happiness. We didn't move for a cure from an illness neither of us had! We moved to begin a new phase in our lives, to start a new adventure! I love learning about new places, seeing new things, finding out about NEW! different! It's the same reason we love to travel - new experiences.

One also hears, "Well, wherever you go, there you are; you take yourself and your problems with you."

No doubt, but we're not relocating to escape ourselves or our problems. Sheesh!

Some people who lack an adventurous spirit just don't get it.

those people are a whole lot of fun to 'travel' with!

Some on this site have traveled / RV'd for yrs exploring potential retirement spots. (just for the adventure)

Often settling on HOME... (not cuz it is ideal, but it is best for the moment).

My frequent travel make me appreciate home (but not the 200+ days / yr of drizzle! it has a LOT of redeeming qualities (at the moment).

Stuff changes, I expect 3-5 'permanent' locations during my 50+ yrs of retirement.

For those who have 'Found-it' ! excellent

I will be 'settled' when I am 'planted' (6ft under)

As the folks on the Tennessee boards. I've been bugging the crap out of them since 2012 and I still don't have a decision made.

I've lived in 4 states over the years and plan to move again to yet another state.

I just tell people that gypsy blood runs in my family.

Every move for me has been an adventure. Adjust, adapt and I'm good to go.

Keep in mind you’re retired. You don’t have to go to the crappy local areas. You can stay in Johnson city or greater Knoxville and avoid the Kingsport and Hawkins Counties of the world

We've talked about moving every 5 years, just to experience different stuff. Don't know if we will do it, but still on the table.

You know what? It doesn't matter. There is good and bad everywhere -- go someplace and deal with it. You'll always be near a WalMart and bad drivers and 200 channel cable and barking dogs.. Taxes will all even out, whether it is income tax in one state or property tax in another. It never snows in Florida, Texas or Arizona.
