Too bad every part of the country is so different. I'd like some national guidelines but that wouldn't work because one place might still be a hot spot while other places are slowing down.
I'm in Connecticut but not near NYC. So here, I think people could start going out in another month. If only they could be really strict for one more month, but that would be hard to do. We've already been strict for weeks now.
I think people could start going back to work for a few days/week. School should just be over and done with. See ya in September. Restaurants could be partially open with extra space between tables. Masks would still be advisable, as would social distancing. Older people would be advised to either keep staying home or to be extremely cautious. But I think things should open up gradually and even then, not be completely open.
(How I would LOVE to spend a few nights near the beach! But can we be sure that the motel is sanitized or would we be afraid of everything we touched. I don't think older people should be taking the chance.)
Because we're both 70 and retired, we'll hunker down until the facts show we can resume a normal life. Fortunately, we have a sufficient risk free income.
I expect people who don't have a sufficient income will come out too soon. They need to earn a living. That will re-ignite the rate of infections.
But I also know that there are many biotech geniuses working together to find both anti-viral remedies as well as a vaccine. That will mitigate the risk.
How long? Nobody knows. Stay tuned.
Sounds about the same as us, we're ok and financially secure but we will probably stay in except for occasional grocery store visits until we are sure that this is under control. (It comes easy to me, I'm an introvert )
We were going to some road trips this summer so that is messed up. How long? No desire to leave our property just to cruise stores, etc. Wanted to put some fresh sod down in our front yard and that would be the only reason we could go anywhere, that some a couple medical appointments.
We get everything we need on-line and have plenty of entertainment via TV.

I'm half the age of most of the people on this board, but other than telecommuting, I'm chomping at the bit to get back to something semi-normal.
I won't be going on a cruise. I won't be going in a crowded nightclub elbow to elbow (standing concerts with proper distance will be fine). I won't be eating at a buffet. I'll be taking disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer everywhere I go. For now, gloves (and masks - if I could get them) will be in the car. I'm not reckless.
With that said, I'm telecommuting, living alone, in an area with very few infections. Should I get the virus, I'm very statistically unlikely to die from it. Sure, the news shows horror stories of "young healthy person" dying from the virus. If you give 10,000 30 year olds the virus, some will come up snake eyes. If 30/10,000 or something like that die, I'll take my chances.
I'm ready for summer. I'm ready to hit the road. I want a restaurant meal, in the restaurant, and beer with my friends who bartend, cook, and wait tables, who are now laid off.
If you click on the country to the left, and then at the lower right, click on the lower right, "Daily Peak", it looks like most of the countries reporting might've peaked already. Not all though. This should, at least, put less strain on the health-care system, right?
