$300,000 ? Bring 'round your wheelbarrow and we'll fill it up. No Change.

Any business starts with a good business plan. Research every conceivable source from articles to suppliers to current such businesses and on and on.

Then write yourself a good business plan which touches on everything from physical plant to marketing plan to employees to cash flow to suppliers to liquor and other permits to waste (not drunken guests!) removal....and then go see a few bankers who will promptly rip it to shreds.

Rinse and repeat. Finally you will have a GOOD plan to float in front of financing sources. Keep plugging until you find someone who will finance you.

If you have never worked in the hospitality industry you are in for a bigly surprise. It is a LOT of work "partying" people, and you get to see them at their best (dancing/dining/having a wonderful time) and their worst (drunk and squawking over the bill because they guaranteed 300 guests (and you prepped for 300) but only 269 showed up and they don't wish to pay you $300 per guest for those who didn't show.

Been there; done that. Worked at a large private corporate country club. In season we had three to five weddings going on in the afternoon....and then a completely new bunch for the evening. You haven't lived until you have to get confetti cleaned up between 5:30 when the afternoon group is leaving and 6 pm when the next bunch is coming in. Confetti? Someone had a wedding here before us? Better not be a flake of that stuff ANYWHERE.

Start asking questions.

We worked as camp hosts at an RV park which is located inside a working cattle ranch. It is a beautiful location, and it's not unusual that it's rented out for weddings and other events (the RV park guests are aware of this possibility, and may or may not be invited to attend these weddings and events).

If the barn is a good-looking place in a good location, no problem.

Perhaps if your hobby is decorating for events, you should focus on that and leave the real estate to others. Does it really matter if it is your own barn ... or could you equally apply your talents elsewhere? My thought is that the image of 'barn weddings' is stronger than the financial reality (unless one already has a barn).

I agree with this, maybe seek a job for an event planner or hotel. If you love decorating, maybe you can do it that way, the money needed to start your own, seem prohibitive, & then you may not make any money for a long time.
