Sounds like I sort of won, she has agreed to sell but no condo, she wants a single family (good luck on this one in my area) but atleast I can escape these taxes
I lived in a condo development (not over 55 years old) for a long time and my beef was not the rules. I like rules--they prevented people from ruining the development. The thing I didn't like were the never-ending, escalating monthly HOA fees and "special assessments". My development was responsible for maintaining the roads and parking lots, not the township, and that included snow removal throughout the roads and parking lots in the development--very expensive. Also the sewer lines were the responsibility of the development and when the main sewer line ruptured, the repair cost was out of sight. The residents attempted to meet to discuss the budget and possible ways to pare down overall costs. We discussed everyone doing their own snow shoveling and grass cutting (with the option of paying someone) but there was a large contingent of older folks who still wanted this covered by the HOA. I think that was a mistake. The costs kept going up, so I made the decision to leave which was a good decision.
I will never, ever, buy into a condo development again. I have a small attached house now and will eventually move into an apartment.
As I read this, it occurred to me that one of their issues is the taxes. Even a smaller house will have the tax issue. Maybe not as much as this couple is paying now but still an issue. My house is very small yet my taxes are very high due to my location. I live in a very good school district but there are not enough businesses to support the tax burden.
Our taxes went up again, and she probably didnt want to hear any more griping from me. Plus the house really doesnt match all of our needs 9she finally realized this)
