What is the BEST Life Lesson you've learned (thus far)? (family, older)

Maybe it's because I worked in law enforcement and married a police officer, but I am so opposite this sentiment (although I would also not let a cop into my house WITHOUT A WARRANT).
If I'm in any kind of trouble.....and am alone.....I'm looking for a cop or driving to the nearest police station.
If that's not possible, I look for the biggest, gnarliest biker guy I can find.....they will protect a chick and/or help. They are very nice that way.
People who think like him make cops' lives easier. That's a win in my book.
Unfortunately too many people who hate the police have them on speed dial anyway.
This lesson has stuck with with me since hearing it in high school: believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. It’s good to remember I may not be seeing the whole picture and to be skeptical of anything I hear (and read) until I can verify from different sources.
Always be moving forward. Yesterday is just that! Today will soon be a yesterday. Enjoy it and be prepared to move on. Now tomorrow, that is our chance for a even better today!
